Saving money has become a great necessity for many folks during this hardcore recession, also known as "The Great Recession". More people are unemployed today than there was several years earlier. Jobs have become difficult to come by as corporations have had to scale back in order to raise profits and satisfy investors on Wall Street. In order to survive more and more people are cutting back on expenses. Eliminate the following unnecessary expenditures and you will without a doubt save money.
Texting has become a very popular way of communicating these days. Unfortunately, most people do not realize that text messages can actually become very expensive. An article in the Chicago Tribune was recently published that talks about the huge profit margins that cellular companies make with text messages. The Tribune mentions how text messages actually cost the carrier around 3 tenths of a cent while they charge the customer around ten to twenty cents, depending on the length of the message. That is a massive markup of 6000% according to the article. You are better off picking up the telephone and calling the person that you are messaging. You can talk all you want for the same price for the most part, depending on your cellular plan. However, if your plan does not include unlimited text messaging, chances are you are going to be paying a very high text message charge.
The second item on our list of expenses to eliminate is one that many of us buy every day without thinking about it. Bottled water is actually very expensive. Especially, since around 40% of the bottled water being sold is actually coming from the tap. Thats right, bottled water suppliers simply reuse city water, bottle it, place a fancy label on it and then sell it in the stores. Drinking bottled water can become very expensive at $1 to $2 bottles per day. Add this up over the month and the year and you are spending a significant chunk of change. You are better of boiling your own water to kill any contaminates and then cooling down in the refrigerator and taking it with you in bottle. The yearly savings alone is enough to purchase a nice television or a round trip plane ticket for your next vacation, especially if you drink multiple bottles per day. The purchase is illogical in the sense that you are spending money for something you already have.
Avoiding name brand prescription drugs is also a good idea. There are generic substitutes available that use the same active ingredients found in the name brand. There are many examples of medications that we can discuss, however, for this article we will take a look at the popular anti-anxiety medication Paxil ®. The price for the name brand Paxil ® will range from $90 to $120 for a thirty day supply depending upon where you make your purchase. On the other hand, Paraxotine, the generic substitute can be purchased for a $30 for a thirty day supply. This is a huge difference. If you are taking the medication for a year your savings alone will be $720. Again, that is a very significant savings. Avoiding name brand prescriptions comes third on our list of ways to save money.
Fourth on our list of ways to save money lies right inside the grocery store. Avoid pre cut fruits and vegetables as much as possible. There is also a lot of mark involved in these types of grocery products due to the extra work involved in cutting up fruits and vegetables. You can buy cant elope melons all cut up ready to eat for about four or five dollars. On the other hand you can buy a whole melon for less than a dollar, go home and cut it up with your own knife and sticking it in some Tupperware or something similar. If you buy the melons already cut you are paying a huge premium for someone to do something that will only exert about 5 minutes of extra energy. The same goes for fruit cups, etc.
